Nelson Community Club Fun Day Events on July 3 & 4

Sunday, July 3, will be the day to be at Nelson's City Park. All the usual events from past years will return with the addition of a horseshoes tournament taking place at 1. Work has been done on the horseshoe court and it is hoped there is interest in reviving the event. It has not been decided if there will be one or two-person teams. That will be determined on the number of entries. Bring your shoes and come try out the courts. Vince Walton will run the tournament. If you have questions contact Vince at 757-831-5397.

The six horseshoe pits at Harbine Park in Nelson are ready for summer fun.

Other events scheduled for the day include: Fun Run-Walk or Bike, breakfast in the Park, washers tournament, lunch in the park, kids' games, volleyball tournament, free swimming with a cardboard boat race, hamburger feed, bingo, beer garden and dance and fireworks at dark.

On Monday, July 4, there will be a 2-person scramble par three 9-hole golf tournament in the morning and a 2-person scramble regular golf tournament in the afternoon at the Elk Creek Country Club.

Look for an ad in next week's paper with a list of events and times.

The horseshoe pits at Harbine Park in Nelson have been getting a little TLC from Royce Schott, park employee. If you are looking for some fun close to home this summer, the park has a total of six horseshoe pits, a Frisbee golf course, covered picnic shelter, sand volleyball courts, tennis and basketball courts and a swimming pool. The park also features four camping pads with electric water and sewer and one with water and electric.
