Aundrea Badger was named as pool manager

 


The regular meeting of the Mankato City Council was called to order by Mayor Justin Schoonover on July 5. Councilment present were: Sam Becker, Kevin Ost, George Hennon, Rodney Payne and Lyle Dauner. Also present were Darrell Miller, city attorney, and Sharon McCormick, interim city clerk.

Visitors present were: Don Jacobs, Jewell County Sheriff; Tiffany Hollerich; Don Koester; Christian Jeffery; Amanda Horn; and Jim Kohman, CES Engineering.

Sheriff Jacobs had a brief discussion with the council regarding complaints of barking dogs.

Kohman gave the council an extensive update on the city water project and presented estimates as to rate increases necessary to complete phase 2.

Amanda Horn, from North Central Regional Planning Commission, joined in the conversation regarding the water project and discussed issues concerning financing.

Christina Jeffery presented an update on fundraising for the splash pad and discussed the issue of location with council. The council indicated further discussion was needed concerning location of the splash pad, and no action was taken.

Tiffany Hollerich, representing the library board, discussed the library’s budget and the possible need for addional finances to operate the library for the coming year.

Don Koester presented a building application for Cunningham Cable. The council approved the application.

It was approved to have Marty Zadina clean the carpets at the Mankato Community Center.

A quote from Border States for summer projects was approved.

The quote from Bohnert Welding for repairs to the front end loader was approved.

An application was approved for a cereal malt beverage license for Sam’s Place for sale of cereal malt beverage at the Jewell County Fairgrounds on July 9, during the county fair.

Payment of dues to the Highway 36 Association was approved.

Aundrea Badger was hired as pool manager for the remainder of the season.

Discussion was held concerning reimbursement and payment of expenses for swimming suits and whistles for the lifeguards. The council decided to reconsider this issue at the end of the pool season. No formal action was taken.
