Plow Day impress news reporters

The annual Jewell County Plow Day was held Friday at the "Shafer Place" between Jewell and Mankato. Above, Calvin Bohnert joins in on the plowing of Joe Eilert's field.

Approximately 25 tractors were raring to go on Friday, for the annual Plow Day. This is a yearly event that is put together by Joe Eilert, Calvin Bohnert and Junior Vandergiesen. Some of the guys came from as far as Iowa and Nebraska to join in on the plowing.

All of the tractors were in the field plowing by about 9:30 a.m. They plowed until noon when everyone stopped and went to eat lunch at Eilert Farms.

As a city girl, Tonya Chaput had never experienced the labor intensive work that farmers have to do. I (Amanda Chaput) have to admit, I never realized the work that they do either. It was definitely an experience that we will never forget. We got to experience the hard work first hand, Junior Vandergiesen took us both out in the field on a Gator. It was his job to make sure the guys had water, and he also helped out if the guys were stopped for any reason.
