Donated cabinets being installed in auditorium

Auditorium cabinets

The Superior Auditorium catering kitchen has much need for cabinets being installed. Steve Fox, committee member, reported the group had solicited donations of used cabinets. They received two responses. Unfortunately, the cabinets did not survive the removal process from their former homes.

Fox and his wife, Karen, were speaking with their son, Scott, nd his wife Keri, who resides n Fort Morgan, Colo. Scott mentioned he was remodeling his kitchen and would be installing new cabinets. Steve questioned Scott as to the disposal of the cabinets being replaced. Scott said he was unsure. Steve asked if he would consider donating them to the Superior Auditorium. The answer from Scott and Keriwas a resounding yes.

Steve and Karen rented a U-Haul trailer and journeyed to Scott's and Keri's home. The cabinets were removed and returned to Superior.

Steve has been working on the installation of the cabinets, along with other volunteers, for the past two weeks.

The installation required removing strips of drywall, locating studs and securing wood o them. These wood strips serve as the anchor points for the cabinets. The upper tier of cabinets required two such strips. The bottom tier required only one.

Steve has the upper bank of cabinets installed along the east wall and is working to install the lower level. When the lower level installation is complete, he will attach the counter tops and insert the drawers. Steve estimates the project will be completed in less than two weeks.

Deb Ostidek donned her painting outfit to paint the accent walls Monday. She painted the area between the upper and lower cabinets as well as the north wall.

Another set of cabinets is being installed along a north wall in the kitchen. These upper cabinets will be near the stoves. The kitchen currently houses one stove but there are plans to add a second unit in the near future. A freezer and refrigerator are already installed.

The new cabinets will significantly add to the storage space available for those utilizing the kitchen.

The major brick tuck pointing project is continuing. The next major project will be refinishing the wood floor in the main hall.

Thanks to the generosity of Scott and Keri Fox and the work of dedicated volunteers such as Steve and Karen Fox and Deb Ostdiek, along with many others, the future of the Superior Auditorium burns bright. The facility is funded entirely by donations and rental fees. It receives no financial support from the City of Superior or Nuckolls County.
