Donald L. Jones, 89, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Ferieo) Jones, was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Jewell County. He died July 29, at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.

Don was a lifelong resident of the area. He grew up in Jewell County and received his formal education attending the White Rock rural school and graduated from the Burr Oak High School. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country for three years during the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage with Beverly Shaw on June 5, 1954, at Guide Rock. This union was blessed with three children, Linda Sue, Mary Ann and Lawrence D. They made their home in the Red Cloud community where Don was employed with Webster County, and then with the state department of roads until his retirement. In later years and because of their failing health, Don and Beverly moved to Hastings to be near family.

In his leisure time Don enjoyed hunting. He was a gifted carpenter and was happiest when he was busy working on projects in his shop for family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Beverly, on July 17, 2022; his parents; a brother, Eldon Jones, and a sister, Darlene VanHeusen.

Surviving are his children: Linda Sue Smith of Lincoln, Neb; Mrs. Tommy Quarles (Mary Ann), of Kingsland, Texas and Lawrence D. Jones, Hastings; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Burial was at the Guide Rock Cemetery.
