Plans for Mankato's downtown Halloween events discussed

September 22, 2022

At the Mankato Chamber of Commerce September meeting, five members were present.

Brian Shulda, vice-president, called the meeting to order. The August minutes and treasurer’s report were approved.

An update was given for the 2023 Birthday Calendars. For the calendar, 449 listings were sold, 118 calendars have been presold and 38 businesses have advertised.

The chamber and city sponsored the Highway 36 Travel Guides again. There were 11 businesses that advertised including the chamber and the city so only one page was needed instead of two. The total cost for the ad was $1,650.00. After the businesses paid their fees, it leaves the chamber and city $375.00 each to pay.

The Highway 36 Treasure Hunt took place September 15 to 18. The chamber hosted the Garage Sale Mall.

A ribbon cutting was held for Nuthin’ Fancy on Tuesday, Sept. 13. There was a great turn out and they served muffins after the ribbon cutting. The bakery will be open Thursday-Monday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Members discussed the Downtown Trick-Or-Treat and Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Both events will take place on Halloween this year. UTE Theatre tickets will be used for prizes for the pumpkin contest.

The scholarship was approved for this school year. At the budget meeting for next year, members will discuss raising the amount awarded.

There was a brief discussion about the Christmas in Mankato event. There is $100 in the budget to be used for advertising for the event. There will be more discussion about this event at a later date.

The next regular monthly meeting will take place Oct. 20, at the Buffalo Roam.
