The Nelson Community Club held their first community clean up this week by starting off the weekend with Community Garage sales on Saturday. The club paid for the advertising for this event and set up donation drop offs for anyone wishing to do a little "clearing of the clutter." The Goodwill collection point was set up on Main Street with the the Catholic Social Services drop at the location of the soon-to-be daycare center, formally the nursing home.

Sunday more than 50 volunteers met for the clean up day. The main focus for the group was to clean up along Main Street, and the city park. Weeds were pulled, trees were trimmed or removed, and street gutters cleared of dirt and debris, giving the the street a much more welcoming look. In the park, volunteers power washed the playground equipment and painted the little horses. The grandstand and ball shack at the baseball field also got a little love, with a fresh coat of white paint.

The "Welcome to Nelson" signage was given a fresh coat of paint and a bit of landscaping work was done around the directional sign near the city shop. Volunteers were also able to help out a few of the members of the community by trimming trees and doing a bit of needed yard work. The tree dump was a popular destination on Sunday.

If you see Nelson Community Club members out and about, let they know what a great job they all did.
