Superior ice cream, burger store will have new owners Scott family takes over Saturday

September 29, 2022

Bloom Street Burgers opened this week at the corner of Fourth and Bloom Street in Superior. The building has most recently housed the Burger Barn and was a long-time location of the Dairy Queen. New owners are Dean, Cerissa and Tereus Scott.

A longtime Superior business will have new owners and a new name on Saturday.

Cerissa and Dean Scott have purchased the Burger Barn, created limited liability company and are changing the business name to Bloom Street Burgers. For many years it was known as the Dairy Queen although in more recents times it has been called the Burger Barn.

It is the Scotts' goal to treat customers and employees as family and develop a staff of longtime employees.

The new owners are not newcomers to the business. Cerissa's grandparents, Jan and Bob McCune, owned and operated Mankato's Sweden Creme from 1996 to 2004 in addition to the Main Street Pub. Cerissa helped her grandparents with both businesses.

After graduation from Mankato High School, she furthered her education by obtaining certified nursing assistant and medical aide status. Dean has worked for Quality and Consolidated ready-mix concrete companies for more than eight years. Prior to that, he was employed at Walt's Furniture and Crowl Tree Service, both Superior businesses.

Cerissa and Dean have one son, Tereus, 14, who is a student at Superior High School. Tereus started preschool in Superior and has been a student here since then. He will be helping his parents with their business venture.

The Scotts plan to serve special holiday meals but those meals will be a family venture as the employees will have the dav off. Various specials are planned with the hope of making Bloom Street Burgers a fun place to stop.

While they are planning on a slow start, their goal is to be open Mondays through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter months. Summer hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays they will not open until 11:30 as time is needed to clean the fryers and ice cream machines.

The early morning opening will feature a breakfast menu. Though not opening until 8 a.m. this Saturday, they plan on offering their first breakfast this week.

In the future they hope to re-establish delivery service and offer sack lunches for the harvesters.

Bloom Street Burgers will serve speciality burgers with baskets and a new assortment of sides. There will be new items for the youngsters and new flavors of Blooming Swirls. Their goal is to make Bloom Street Burgers a fun place for both customers and employees.
