October 6, 2022

Joyce Darlene Snell, 87, the daughter of Leonard O. and Maude B. (Young) Bailey, was born April 2, 1935, at Edgar, Neb. She died Sept. 21, 2022 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.

Joyce received her formal education attending the Edgar schools and graduated with the Class of 1952. She then moved to Clay Center where she was employed at the courthouse. On June 6, 1954, she was united in marriage with Glenn L. Snell. This union was blessed with two daughters, Virginia and Pamela. Shortly following their marriage they moved to Omaha where Joyce was employed with Northern Natural Gas Company. They later moved to Lincoln where she worked from home with a marketing company and then began her 20 year career working with the American Cancer Society. Following their retirements, Joyce and Glenn moved to Edgar to make their home.

In her leisure time she possessed a number of interests and activities including baking and decorating cakes, sewing, reading, growing flowers in her garden, canning fruits and vegetables and writing books on family history. They enjoyed traveling in their camper and covered the 48 continental states and Canada. While their girls were younger, they also hosted a number of foreign exchange students through the years. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family, and she especially cherished the time they were together.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Glenn, in December of 2016; her daughter, Pamela; sisters, Betty Uldrich, Bonnie Drapal and Marilyn Mosier; and brothers, Max, Dick, Bob and Bud Bailey.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Mike Drennen of Edgar; grandsons, William and Dylan Drennen; a sister, Gayle Peters; two brothers, Jay Bailey, and Rex Bailey; and brother-in-law, Roy Drapal.

Her funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at the Williams Funeral Home in Edgar with Pastor David King officiating. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery.
