The Jewell County commissioners met Sept. 26. Commissioners Steve Greene, Brent Beck and Keith Roe, and MacKinzie Kohler, deputy county clerk, were present for the meeting.
The following were present for the office head meeting and provided an update for their department: Chris Petet, custodian; Alexandria Pierce, county attorney; Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator; Joel Elkins, general superintendent; and Cindy Becker, health administrator. Those absent: Shannon Meier, ambulance director; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension district director; Travis Garst, solid Waste director; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; and Don Jacobs, sheriff.
Kevin Peroutek attended a mass casualties drill with the fire departments; everything went well. He also attended KEMA conference and set up a state fair booth for noxious weed.
Chris Petet said the boilers were checked; maintenance was performed and the boilers are in working condition. Contractors will be checking into the hole in the clerk’s office ceiling.
Joel Elkins said they are working on a road project north of Webber as well as north of Burr Oak in the fire areas.
Cindy Becker said the health department has advertised their 2009 Dodge Journey in the newspaper for closed bids; they are accepting until Oct. 14. They will have a clinic set up for the Jewell Corn Show. There was a COVID-19 booster clinic. COVID-19 boosters are in high demand. The parking lot of the health department office is finished.
Alex Pierce said they have had a busy month with nine juvenile cases (two pending), 125 traffic cases, 26 criminal cases, five to six sentencings, with as many lined up, and two individuals sent to DOC for prison. There have been several bad checks recently.

Steve Greene said he attended the economic development committee meeting.
Joel Elkins discussed maintenance projects.
Don Jacobs said Angela Murphy who is in charge of 911 funds contacted him to say Jewell County was not in compliance with the state statutes for use of 911 funds. Steve Greene suggested discussing this matter with the auditor.
