The Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team knew they faced a challenge when they entered Class D-2 district play Saturday at Howells. The Raiders were the number 16 seed while the Howells-Dodge Jaguars were the number one seed.
Despite their best efforts, the Raiders were swept in three sets, 18-25, 16-25 and 23-25. The loss dashed the Raiders hopes for a place the state tournament table.
Katelyn Mazour netted nine kills for the Raiders. Sydney Biltoft, Kara Menke and Hanna Skinner pounded down five kills apiece. Emily Troudt landed two kills. Claire Himmelberg and Jessica Sole finished with a kill each.
Biltoft, Menke, Skinner and Troudt each scored with an ace.
Menke recorded a block.
Mazour was on the deck for 11 digs. Addi McCloskey and Troudt popped up eight digs apiece. Himmelberg and Menke contributed five digs each. Skinner and Sole added four digs each. Biltoft ran up two digs.
For Mazour and Troudt it was end of their Raider volleyball days. The seniors were major contributors to the success of the team.
The underclassmen, six sophomores and three juniors accumulated a wealth of game experience this season to provide a strong base for next season.
The team's 15-17 record belies the adversity the raiders faced through out the season. They played few home matches and only three matches against other D2 schools. They made it to the district finals while many other teams were sitting at hem. Well done, ladies.
