L-N boys split a pair

The Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team opened the season with a 34-26 win over the Red Cloud Warriors at Red Cloud, Friday. The Thayer Central Titans were less cooperative as they downed the Raiders 40-24 at Hebron Saturday.

The Raiders and Warriors played it close for the first three quarters. L-N led 14-11 at the half way mark. T he margin was 22-18 at the end of three quarters. The Raiders put it all together in the final quarter to emerge with the 34-26 win.

Thayer central sprinted out to a 10-2 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Raiders trailed 22-14 at the ened of the second quarter but were never in serious contention as they fell by 16 points, 40-24.

Clay Williams donated 10 points to lead the Raiders scoring against Red Cloud. Nolan Ostdiek contributed nine points to the Raider cause. Krayron Kucera was good for six points. Devyn Zikmund accounted for four points. Erik Wheeland listed three points for the game. Sawyer Cox scored two points. Ostdiek landed six points. Kucera hit the boards for four rebounds. Tyson Kotinek and Zikmund nabbed three rebounds apiece. Cox and Toby Kotinek nailed down two rebounds each. Connor Janda had a rebound.


Ostdiek sank eight points to lead the scoring against Thayer Central. Kucera contributed seven points. Toby Kotinek added three points. Janda, Kucera and Williams turned in two points each.Toby Kotinek, Kucera, Ostdiek and Williams pulled down three rebounds each. Tyson Kotinek had a rebound.

The Raider host the Franklin Flyers at Nelson Friday. The Bruning-Davenport-Shickley Eagles play the Raiders Saturday at Nelson. The Friend Bulldogs arrive Tuesday for a game.
