RHHS girls basketball opens with a win

The Rock Hills High School girls basketball team kicked off the season campaign with a 45-34 win over the Pike Valley Panthers at Mankato Friday. It was the opening round game of the T-Bird Invitational Tournament. The Grizzlies played Clifton-Clyde, at Clyde, Tuesday, in the second round with game results unavailable at press time.

Lauren Whelchel led the Rock Hills scoring chart with 18 points. Danica Frost contributed 16 points. Halle Mizner added six points for the Grizzlies. Selena Luong popped in three points. Bethany Simmelink kicked in two points.

Whelchel hit the boards for 10 rebounds. Simmelink nabbed three rebounds. Grace Ayers, Luong, Austyn Groote, Frost, Hannah Simmelink, and Mizner snagged a round apiece. The Grizzlies play a to-be-determined opponent, Saturday, in the final round of the T-Bird Invite at Concordia. Rock Hills hosts arch-rival St. John’s-Tipton at Mankato Tuesday for their final game of 2022. The Grizzlies hibernate until 2023 arrives.
