Monday fire strikes hearts of Hardy families

December 15, 2022

A family with multi-generational ties to Hardy is reeling this week after a fire Monday morning destroyed family members’ home in Osborne and left one family member dead.

Firefighters were called to the 335 South Third Street address shortly after 5 a.m. Monday. They arrived to find the home of Rod and Kristi Gruber totally engulfed in flames.

As the fire was brought under control and the investigation into it cause started, the body of the Grubers’ son-in-law, David Dean, 32, was found in the northeast corner of the house.

Among his survivors is a wife, Zandy, and three small children.

Mrs. Gruber is the twin sister of a Hardy resident, Tim Kelly. Her parents, Duane and Valerie Kelly, are also Hardy residents.

A Go-Fund-Me account has been established by Staci Kelly of Hardy to assist the Grubers.
