Johnnie Ray Snow was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Jewell County. He was the fourth child of John L. and Belle (Arbuckle) Snow. In 1938, John and Belle moved their family to the Duckerville community in Smith County, northwest of Lebanon. Johnnie attended Oriole Country School and Lebanon High School.
At the age of 22, Johnnie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951. Becoming a Marine was a proud accomplishment. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 1953, Johnnie returned to the family farm.
On May 25, 1963, Johnnie was united in marriage to Patricia Smith at Red Cloud. Johnnie and Patty established their home at the Duckerville farm where they would reside for the next 50 years, raising crops and livestock. Johnnie enjoyed raising cattle and was a good steward of the land.
Two children were born to complete the family, Bradley Ray in 1966 and Angela Louise in 1969.
Johnnie was an avid gun collector, with a special interest in Winchesters. He was also a life member of the NRA.
In 2012, Johnnie and Patty retired from their farming duties and moved to Red Cloud. Johnnie enjoyed coffee time with the guys where he could discuss politics and world events.
Johnnie became a resident of the Heritage Nursing Home in Red Cloud on Oct. 24, 2019. He died at the residence on Dec. 6, 2022.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Patty of the home; daughter Angela Ayers of Mankato; and his sister, Meda Goddard of Berthoud, Colorado.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Ray in 2011; sisters, Marvel Hojda and Yolande Henderson; and brother, Quentin Snow.
His graveside service was at 11 a.m., Monday, at the Red Cloud Cemetery with the Rev. Les Ellis officiating.
