Ramona Thayer

Ramona V. Thayer, the daughter of Herman and Elta (Oestmann) Bohling, was born on Jan. 1, 1941, at her grandpa's home east of Byron, Nebraska. She died on Dec. 11, 2022, at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home at Deshler, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, 10 days.

The family moved to a farm between Chester and Hebron where she attended Stoddard country school. The family moved near Ruskin in 1955 where she attended and graduated from Ruskin High School. She met Mervin Thayer and they were married on Dec. 25, 1958, at the Bethany Lutheran Church and were blessed with eight children. They made their home south of Ruskin.

She was a 61 plus year member of Bethany Lutheran Church and also the Altar Guild.

Ramona enjoyed her Sunday afternoon walks at Mrs. Calmer's place, and also with her walking partners Evelyn Urban and Aletha Renz. She enjoyed reading and time with her husband and family members including her sisters and other family members.


She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Jerilyn and Carolyn; son-in-law, Kenneth Boss; and her brother, Maynard.

Survivors include her husband, Mervin of Ruskin; her children, Jeff Thayer of Fairfield; Pat Boss of Davenport; Barry (Janet) Thayer of Silver Lake; Kathy (Jay) Ross of Superior; Michelle (Chris) Petersen of Superior and Michael Thayer of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren: Dakota and Fiancé Ahsley Overturf, Cherokee (Dylan Schofield), Travis (Ariele), Kayla, Natasha (Ricky), Haley (Luke), Evan (Taylor), Brett, Ethan, Colin, and Christopher; 13 great-grandchildren: Finley, Ezra, Lennon, Abel, Bellamy, Landry, Loudon, Porter, Lulea, Piper, Kooper. Layne and Ellie; siblings, Ronnie Bohling, Lorraine (Kenny) Anderson, Verdell Bohling, Debbie (Dave) Judy; and sister-in-law, Ellen Bohling; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.


Kansas Public Notices

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec, 16, from the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ruskin, with Pastor Lori Kitzing officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., today (Thursday) with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., to greet friends.

Pallbearers will be Evan Ross, Brett Ross, Ethan Ross, Colin Ross, Christopher Peterson, Dakota Thayer and Travis Thayer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Ross, Chris Peterson, Luke Meier and Ricky Keim.

Interment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery at Ruskin.

Memorials are suggested to go to Bethany Lutheran Church.
