SHS girls remain unbeaten at 4-0

The Superior High School girls basketball team is riding a perfect season as they headed into Tuesday's game against Blue Hill at Superior with game results unavailable at press time.

Superior dominated the Fairbury Jeffs, 47-14, at Fairbury last Tuesday. They held off a strong Wilber-Clatonia team, 53-43, at Superior, Saturday, to improve their record to 4-0 for the young season.

Superior held Fairbury scoreless in the first quarter to take a 9-0 lead. When the second period of play ended, Superior was in the driver's seat with a 27-6 lead. The Wildcats cruised their way to a 47-14 win, holding the Jeffs to four points in each of the final two quarters.

Wilber-Clatonia proved to be more of a challenge. Superior held a 36-30 lead at the halfway mark. The teams were tied at 41 each as they headed into the final period of play. The Wildcats stepped up the defensive pressure, holding the Wolverines to two points while they dropped through 12 points to remain undefeated,

Sadie Cornell led the Wildcat offense against Fairbury with 21 points. Halle Bargen hit for six points. Madison Heusinkvelt and Laci Kirchhoff finished with five points apiece. Ella Gardner contributed four points. Faith Butler, Lilly Edwards and Ariana Heusinkvelt added two points each. Madison Heusinkvelt nailed down nine rebounds. Gardner pulled away eight rebounds. Bargen nabbed six rebounds. Butler held onto four rebounds. Cornell and Kirchhoff landed three rebounds apiece. Ariana Heusinkvelt had two rebounds. Rayne Biltoft had a rebound.

Cornell led the Wildcat scoring against Wilber-Clatonia with 23 points. Bargen accounted for 16 points. Kirchhoff iced down 11 points. Gardner kicked in three points.

Superior travels to Oxford, Friday, for a game with Southern Valley. The Centennial Centurions visit Superior Saturday.
