Mary Ann Biltoft

Mary Ann Biltoft, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Barta) Mazour, was born on Feb. 20, 1932, on the family farm near Nelson, Nebraska. She died on Dec.16, 2022, at her home in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 9 months, 26 days.

Mary Ann was baptized in the Catholic faith in March of 1932, and confirmed in 1944, at Our Lady Assumption Church in Deweese, Neb. She attended District 24 Star Country School and Nelson High School, graduating in 1949. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson since 1962 and was an active member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society. She was married to Donald D. Biltoft and they had six children. They were later divorced.

Mary Ann worked for The Lincoln Telephone Company in Lincoln after graduating high school. After returning home, she worked at Young's Pharmacy and was school secretary at Nelson Grade School. She worked in the Soil Conservation Service office for many years. She was selected as Nebraska's Outstanding Older Worker for 1999. She was employed mornings in the kitchen at Nelson Public Schools, afternoons at Dr. Robert Wilson's dental office in Nelson and evenings and weekends at Price Funeral Homes in Nelson and Superior.


Mary Ann was active in the Nelson community. She took part in the Nelson community plays, helped celebrate local events and was an active supporter for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Another favorite pastime was sitting in the shade in front of the house with Bob. They would share and laugh at countless stories of the old days, watch the local neighborhood children play and watch the ornery squirrels devour ears of corn mounted on the spruce tree.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donnie on April 10, 2017; and her sisters, Frances Makovicka and Elanor (Al) Hamersky.

Survivors include her special friend, Bob Wehrman of Nelson; her children, Pia (Kent) Meyer of Denver, Colorado; Roger (Cathy) Biltoft of Nelson; Nick (Cindy) Biltoft of Riverton, Wyoming, Crystal (Rick) Meyer of Houston, Texas, and Tara (Greg) Daly of Bawley Point, New South Wales, Australia; daughter-in-law, Lucy Biltoft of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren: Nicole, Becky, Jordan, Corbin, Taylor, Gage, Kelsey, Calem, Trevor, Joe and John, Brigum, Torin and Seave; step-granddaughter: Alicia Meyer; 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.


Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 7, from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, with the Rev. Ferdinand Boehme officiating. Lector will be Gary Ostdiek, altar servers will be Jace Hoelting.

A rosary service will be held one half hour before the funeral mass.

Music will be a solo by Leslie Biltoft of "Let There Be Peace On Earth" and "Ave Maria" with Linda Ostdiek as her accompanist, and a recording of "God Bless America."

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the church before mass.

Honorary pallbearers are Mary Ann's grandchildren: Nicole Biltoft, Becky Wiese, Jordan Biltoft, Corbin Biltoft, Taylor Biltoft, Gage Biltoft, Kelsey Biltoft, Calem Biltoft, Trevor Biltoft, Joe Meyer, John Meyer, Alicia Meyer, Brigum Daly, Torin Daly and Seave Daly.


Inurnment will be in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson.

Memorials are suggested to go to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nelson EMT and Fire Department.
