Neil Leon Thomsen, the son of Carl and Lorene (Barfknecht) Thomsen, was born on June 3, 1952, in Superior, Nebraska. He died Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at Brodstone Healthcare at Superior, at the age of 70 years, 7 months, 6 days.

Neil attended grade school in Bostwick and Superior and was a 1971 Superior High School graduate. He was united in marriage to Barbara Smith on Sept. 3, 1977, at the Methodist Church in Superior. This union was blessed with three girls.

Neil was a third-generation farmer in the Bostwick and Superior area. He worked for Nebraska-Bostwick Irrigation for more than 20 years in Superior and Red Cloud. He was in his element when he was able to visit with the irrigators on his canal route rides. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors, friends and meeting new acquaintances where ever he traveled, and especially with his family.

He was a fourth generation 4-H leader, Extension Board, 4-H Council, and a Farm Bureau Board member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Lorene; step-father, Elmer Meyer; and step-brother, Delmer Meyer.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Superior; daughters, Brooke (Kyle) Coshow of Prineville, Oregon; Kara (Aaron) Wells of Central City, Nebraska; and Andrea (Reshad) Hamidi of Rosenberg, Texas; four grandchildren, Austin and Fallon Wells, and William and Weston Coshow; siblings Carol (Glen) Mueller of Nelson; Ron (Marilyn) Thomsen of Reno, Nevada; sister-in-law Mary Meyer of Concordia, Kansas; Cheryl (Arden) Russell of Webber, Kansas; Sharon (Doug) Dickinson of Seward, Nebraska; Yvonne (Stuart) Price of Joplin, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) Jan. 12, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, with Pastor Ethan Feistner officiating.

Memorials may go to the charity of the gift giver's choice.
