SHS boys win two straight, then lose

After struggling for the best part of the season, the Superior High School boys basketball team strung together a modest two game win streak with a 40-38 win over Deshler, at Deshler, last Tuesday, and a 52-46 win over Diller-Odell at Diller Friday in Superior. The streak came to an abrupt halt, Monday, when the Wildcats were downed 49-31 by Milford, at Centennial High School, Utica, in the opening round game of the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament.

It was nip and tuck for Superior when they played Deshler with Superior needing to mount a huge fourth quarter comeback. The Wildcats led 9-7 after the first quarter of play. There shooting matched the recent temperatures as they scored zero points in the second period to trail 18-9 at the half. They righted the ship in the third quarter but still trailed by nine points, 30-21. There fourth quarter 19 points put them ahead as they held the Dragons to eight points and picked up win number two of the season.


Win number three came Friday as they handed the Diller-Odell Griffins a 52-46 loss at Odell.

Jacob Meyer topped the Superior scoring chart against Deshler with 15 points. Colten Butler was good for eight points while Tanner Theis hit for seven points. Roscoe Baumbach added five points for the Wildcats. Ashton Grasman listed three points. Dayne Clark scored two points. Baumbach grabbed eight rebounds. Clark and Grassman nabbed five rebounds apiece. Theis landed four rebounds. Meyer accounted for three rebounds. Butler and Tate Streit produced a rebound each.

Theis led the Wildcat offense against Diller-odell with 16 points. Butler contributed 13 points. Baumbach dropped through 12 points. Meyer produced six points. Grassman netted four rebounds. Clark sank a free throw for one point. Grassman hauled away six rebounds. Clark created five rebounds. Meyer and Theis pulled away four rebounds each. Butler added three rebounds. Baumbach was good for two rebounds. Streit landed a rebound.


The Wildcats play a to be determined opponent at Centennial, Utica, Saturday, with a tip off time of 9:15 a.m.

Superior travels to Smith Center, Kansas, Monday.
