World Marriage Day celebrated in Catholic parishes

The Sacred Heart Altar Society in Nelson hosted a brunch Sunday morning after Mass to honor those couples married 50 or more years. Pictured with our Parish Priest, Father Boehme, are Mike and Ellen Buresh and Ken and Jean Ann Himmelberg.

A World Marriage Day celebration was started in 1983 in the United States. It is celebrated on the second Sunday of February annually.

55 years and counting . . . Don and MaryAnn Mazour (left) and Allen and Nancy Ostdiek took part in celebrating World Marriage Day February 11.

In northwestern Nuckolls County the Catholic parishes of Sacred Heart in Lawrence and St. Stephen just south of Lawrence celebrated the event following the weekend Masses: Saturday evening at Sacred Heart and Sunday morning at St. Stephen.

Couples celebrating five year anniversaries were recognized.

Those couples included the following:

Sacred Heart: Allen and Nancy Ostdiek and Don and Mary Ann Mazour, 55 years; Chuck and Sandra Carpenter and Jim and Judy Kucera 40 years; Randy and Beth Himmelberg 25 years; Tony and Cheri Peters, Pedro and Marie González, Brian and Aimee Ostdiek and Nick and Kara Kliewer, 15 years; Brad and Emily Kohmetscher 10 years; Michael and Amy Schroer 5 years.

St. Stephen: Ben and Mary Kathman 40 years; Dale and Mary Kimminau 35 years; Roy and Peg Faimon 35 years; Randy and Leslie Lemke 30 years; Gerald and Michele Buschkoetter 10 years.
