Rock Hills students participate in KMEA 12A State Honor band

 

Four students from Rock Hills High played with the state honor band. Pictured with Michael Sweeney (far right), a nationally known composer, are (from left) Faith Reinert, Hannah Simmelink, Arielle Jacobs and Davin Coil, Sweeney conducted the 12A State Honor band on Saturday, at the Kansas Music Educators Asssociation (KMEA) State Convention.

Four students from Rock Hills High school band had the opportunity to work with Michael Sweeney, nationally known composer. Mr. Sweeney conducted the 12A State Honor band Saturday, at the KMEA State Convention. Davin Coil, baritone sax, Arielle Jacobs flute, Faith Reinert trumpet, and Hannah Simmelink, tenor sax were chosen to be a part of this ensemble. They had to audition to be members of the KMEA District band to be eligible to audition for this ensemble. They rehearsed Thursday afternoon, Friday all day and Friday evening and performed along with 60 other students from 1 and 2 A schools  across the state of Kansas. Mr. Sweeney had composed  the pieces the students performed.
