A couple of weeks ago, we headed down to see Robert on a Saturday. He was set to deploy the next week, so we wanted to wish him well in person. We even got to meet his new girlfriend. He was so nervous for us to meet her that he made me nervous. He kept texting me about where we planned to have lunch, and he said he wanted everything to be perfect. I finally had to tell him to stop cause his anxiety gave me anxiety. She had already met his dad and still wanted to date him, so it should have been an easy meeting for George and me. LOL!
We had a great day with both of them. She’s a sweet girl with a bit of sass to boot! My ex-husband and I rarely agree on anything, but we do in this case. Robert has his hands full with that one! I hope it works out for them because they make a cute couple and seem happy and content with each other. Because of an error, Robert is still in Kansas for at least the next couple of weeks, and we may get to see him one last time before he leaves. The girlfriend even volunteered to drag him to Nebraska to see us.
The two youngest boys were down for a visit this weekend. Their mom and stepdad thankfully met us halfway on Friday; I don’t know if we would have made it if we had had to drive to Omaha and home Friday after work. George and Jackson, the oldest, had high hopes of being able to work on the old car that takes up space in the garage, but it was too cold. So the three of them spent most of the day playing video games with Nicholas, the youngest. He was in heaven.
Jack is a senior this year, so our time with him is growing short. I’m proud of the young man he has become... most days. He can be willful and pigheaded; hopefully, that will serve him well in adulthood, although it’s not his most attractive asset! LOL! He is a typical 17-year-old, and he knows everything! He’s a bit of a gearhead and loves “classic rock.” When did the 70s and 80s music become “classic?”
Nicky is in that sweet spot. He hasn’t gotten that “teen angst” and attitude quit yet. Don’t get me wrong, it rears its ugly head occasionally, but he still likes hanging out with Mom and Dad and enjoys “kid” stuff, like Legos and family game night, as long as he wins. LOL!
Jacob has been waiting on orders for the last couple of weeks. He finally has them. It looks like I may be driving to Texas to pick him up. I’m not looking forward to the drive, but I am excited to have some time with him and have him home for a bit, even if he will be in and out and who knows where. I believe he will be doing something with recruiting while he waits for his next class to begin.
We have two weeks until the official start of spring, and George is still betting on snow in April. Insert eye roll. I know it’s possible, but I am doubtful. At least if it does snow, it won’t be around for long. X’s & O’s.
