Robert Carl Thompson

Robert Carl Thompson, known by many as Bob, age 78, a resident of Jewell, Kansas, died Feb. 25, 2023.

Bob was born in Modesto, California, the son of Lois and Lionel Thompson. Bob was the youngest of four children, having two brothers, Jerry and Edward, and one sister Lorraine.

Bob married the love of his life, Delphine, on Sept. 27, 1975, in Tucson, Arizona. He received his GED while in serving in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1965 to 1971. After that, he worked on the railroad while living in Wyoming. In 1973, he made his way to Arizona where he worked for Dunlap Oil Co. as a driver for them. Once he was married, they moved to Grants, New Mexico in 1975, where he worked for Homesteak mines from 1975-1983, as a driller.

In 1984 he went to work for Roadway Express as a driver, where he spent the rest of his working career. The job moved him and his family to Colorado, and then to Texas, where he retired from them in 2017. And in 2017, he and his wife wanted to enjoy the retired life in Jewell, Kansas.

When Bob wasn't working, he liked taking his family on road trips across the US. He enjoyed planes and trains and any old car. He had such a spark in his eye when he was able to attend an air show or a car show. He enjoyed going camping with his wife whenever he got the chance. Bob was a Christian man and his faith led him every day.

Bob is survived by his wife, Delphine Thompson; his daughter, Viva Thompson; sister, Lorraine Thompson; niece, Joni Thompson Brierly and her husband, Kurt Brierly; niece, Lonny Thompson Baltz and her husband, Chris Baltz; great-nieces and nephews Cori, Tyler and Trevor.

The family will be holding a celebration of life in Texas at a later date, no services in Kansas are planned at this time.

Melby Mortuary of Mankato is assisting Bob's family with these arrangements, http://www.melbymortuary. com
