The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson, Monday.

The board received one bid for gravel for the road department. Deweese Sand and Gravel submitted the lone bid. The county accepted the bid. Pit prices are $17.10 per yard for gravel and $22 per yard for mud rock at the Superior pit.

The road department accepted delivery of a new tracked skid steer. The equipment is in use at the Bostwick Canal culvert project. The culverts are installed and covered. Finish work is underway.

Bobbi Petit, Five Rule consultant, provided the board with an update on the county comprehensive plan. A comprehensive plan must be in place to secure multiple sources of grant funding. A hearing to collect input from community service providers and businesses is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, at the county fairgrounds. The hearing is by invitation.

This reporter occasionally ventures to the second floor courtroom to observe county court sessions on Monday. This week saw a variety of cases. One county resident was ordered to serve 18 months probation and restitution of more than $14,000 for a fuel card fraud conviction.

Another individual was arrested during a traffic stop. He was wanted in California on three child pornography charges. He is being held pending extradition to that state.

There were several traffic related offenders, some cases were continued to later dates. One case involved a pick up truck which was supposedly abandoned in Hardy. Two individuals removed the vehicle, which was in not like new condition, being a 1985 GMC which had been sitting unused for several years, with the intention of returning it to running condition. The truck owner was of another opinion. Charges were brought. One defendant had his case adjudicated. The other defendant in the case failed to appear. He will find a warrant appearing in his future.

Just a typical morning in county court.

Government Day, where area high school students are introduced to the workings of county government and tits constituent departments, begins at 9 a.m., Monday.

The board will meet again at 8:30 a.m.. Monday, April 3.
