The Superior and Lawrence-Nelson golf teams opened their season with a nine-hole quadrangular match played over the Superior Country Club course, Thursday, under less than ideal weather conditions. The wind was blowing, the air was cool and damp as the players struggled to stay warm. Other teams competing at the event were Red Cloud and Bruning-Davenport-Shickley.
Superior hosted the Superior Invitational at the country club Tuesday with results unavailable at press time. The match was rescheduled to accommodate the state FFA convention and shortened to nine holes because of the weather.
Lawrence-Nelson took team honors with score of 160. Red Cloud was in second place with a score of 179. Superior held third place with a score of 190. B-D-S finished with a score of 197.
Toby Kotinek led the Raiders with a round of 37. He took top individual honors. Bayln Bargen recorded a round of 37, good for second place in the individual standings. Krayton Kucera posted a round of 39 and a third place individual finish. Connor Janda listed a round of 46 for the match. Wyatt Hajny had a round of 49. The four best scores make up the team score.
Carsyn Koening led Superior with a round of 44. Colten Butler contributed a round of 45. Aaron Grassman was in with a round of 50. Ashton Grassman came through with a round 51. Cooper Ehlers closed out with a round of 54.
Junior varsity golfers for both teams were out on the course for nine holes of play.
Carson Vaughn had a round of 47 for Lawrence-Nelson. Clay Wlliams carded a round 48. Jacob Kathman put up a round 51. Keaton Mazour listed a round of 53 for the match. Trev Mueller was in with a round of 64.
Superior sent three junior varsity golfers out on the course. Kash Wenske recorded a round of 58. Brayden Wulf provided a round of 63. Owen Perrie recorded a round of 66.
The Wildcats visit Red Cloud Tuesday for a match.
