Pie on the Porch at Burr Oak's historic Wellman home

 

In 1908, George Wellman and his wife built a new home on the south edge of Burr Oak with seven gables after his wife read the book "The House of Seven Gables." The Elkins family served pie from the porch as part of the Big Kansas Road Trip.

The Elkins family was busy preparing for the Big Kansas Road Trip. They served pie on the porch at the historic Wellman home in Burr Oak from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday. The large home was built in 1908 by George Wellman. His wife read the book, The House of the Seven Gables and decided her new home would seven gables as well.

Since the home was built it has only been home to four families. The Elkins have enjoyed living in this home and twere eager to share the home's story with visitors.They had small tokens for the Big Kansas Road Trip visitors available as well as special stories about what t...
