L-N Golf team earn Conference Championship

The 2023 edition of the L-N Raider golf team is making a name for itself. It has brought home several championship trophies so far in the season and last week it brought home a much coveted trophy from the Twin Valley Conference Tournament.

In past years the Raiders had individuals who golfed with the leaders in area schools. However, for 2023, four golfers were within six strokes of each other after 18 holes of golf for four of the lowest five golfers in the tournament.

Those four, Krayton Kucera 81; Toby Kotinek 83; Connor Janda 84 and Baylin Bargan 87, all were among the first five medalist for the tournament. As with all golfing matches, each team has five golfers and the best four scores are used to compute team totals. The fifth golfer for L-N was Carson Vaughn who came in with a score of 101.

Team scores were: L-N 335; Red Cloud 358; Deshler 392; Franklin 407; Blue Hill 442 and Silver Lake 452.

For the Raiders, Krayton and Toby were even after 17 holes of golf. Krayton scored a six on the 18th hole while Toby had an eight. Krayton recorded three birdies for the day and all golfers hit for par on many holes.

The junior varsity team made itself proud as well at the conference meet. Two of the top five medalists, in fact the top two, for the JV teams were Raiders. Jacob Kathman had low score of all JV golfers with an 85. Clay Williams came in with a 91.

Kathman and Williams were the only JV golfers of all schools to break 100 for the day.

Other JV golfers were: Keaton Mazour 108, Wyatt Hajny 116 and Nathan Elledge 119.

The season is ending with a bang with an invitational at Franklin Tuesday and Hebron on Wednesday. The District Golf Meet will be Monday at the Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island.
