SHS golf hosts meet

The Superior Country Club golf course was the site of the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament Thursday.

The event was anything but dull as Mother Nature decided to add some spice to the game. Play was suspended for more than two hours as lightning flashed across the sky and connected to the ground. The event was an 18-hole affair.

Superior finished in ninth place, with a score of 402, in the 10 team field of Thayer Central, Sutton, Sandy Creek, Fairbury, David City, Milford, Fillmore Central, Heartland Community and Centennial. Sandy Creek won the team title.

Colten Butler led the Wildcats with his round of 81 which was good for the seventh place medal in the individual standings. Ashton Grassman and Ayron Grassman shot identical rounds of 104. Owen Perrie carded a round of 113.

Superior closed out their regular season schedule at the Thayer Central Invitational Wednesday. Match results were unavailable at press time.

Superior competes Monday and Tuesday for places at the state meet when they compete at the District C-4 qualifying match to be played over the Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island. Other teams in the field are Arcadia-Loup City, Central City, Centura, Doniphan-Trumbull, Fillmore Central, Gibbon, Grand Island Central Catholic, Hastings St. Cecilia, Heartland, Ord, St. Paul, Sutton, Twin River and Wood River.

Individual players may qualify even if their team does not.
