Chamber makes plans for Threshing Bee

The Mankato Chamber of Commerce met last Wednesday with eight members present.

Jason Ortman, president, called the meeting to order. Haley Nelson read the minutes from the April meeting. Heather Thompson gave a treasurer’s report.

Haley Nelson gave an update on the membership drive. The membership drive is going really well this year. The chamber has $3,145.00 in membership dues.

The Big Kansas Road Trip took place May 4 to 7 in Republic, Jewell and Smith counties. It was reported the museum, jail and the “Pie on the Porch” event all had great turnouts.

The Community Clean-up took place May 1 through 3. This year there were more scheduled pickups than there have been in the years past. The chamber thanked the City of Mankato employees for their help picking up the trash and making the town look great!

Community Garden Plots are full. Brian Shulda reported so far everything that is planted looks good. 

The threshing bee will take place Saturday, July 15. The chamber will sponsor Music in the Park with Johnny Garman that evening. There will be four band members. The chamber will pay them each $150. The chamber will also work a gate at the threshing bee and hold the Watermelon Popping Contest.

The Mother’s Day Luncheon will take place May 14. The chamber has nine volunteers for the event and nine desserts that have been donated. Ham and pulled chicken sandwiches, beans, macaroni salad and desserts will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Brian Shulda presented Davin Coil with the chamber’s $500 scholarship at Senior Day. 

The next meeting will take place Wednesday, June 14, at Bob’s.
