Nelson American Legion
Ryan Koehler, former airman, and member of the United States Space Force, gave the keynote speech during Memorial Day services held by the Nelson American Legion. Ryan spoke of the veterans whose stories of their service days made an impact on his life and were a big part of the reason he chose to enlist. Ryan also spoke of how important it was to continue to share the stories of our fallen heroes because by sharing, those who are no longer with us, live on.
Every year the Nelson American Legion, Sons and Auxiliary members volunteer their time to place flags in the Nelson Cemetery, Courthouse Yard, and Memorial Plaza and organize and deliver the Memorial Day services at the Nora and Nelson cemeteries, and in Memorial Plaza in Downtown Nelson. In years past, the flags at the cemetery were not able to be placed because of rain, but this year every flag was flying high and a glorious site to behold.
