Edgar Legion holds annual poker run

 

The American Legion Post 248 held their 17th annual Poker Run Sunday, June 4. The route was 186 miles, starting and ending at Edgar Legion, with stops at Guide Rock, Concordia, Kansas and Hebron. All types of motorcycles, a convertible and a muscle car joined in on the fun for another successful year. There were 103 registered participants. Award winners pictured are (from left) Tim Hecke, Jessy Sporing, Larry Simpkins, Bill Paxton, Michelle Kline, Amy Behrens, Kendra Morris and Michael Bower. Kendra Morris; Superior, was the first place winner. The second place winner was Amy Behrens, Geneva, and third place winner, Michelle Kline, Nelson.

The Edgar American Legion Post held their 17th annual Poker Run Sunday. The route covered 186 miles, starting and ending at the Edgar Legion, with stops at Guide Rock, Concordia, and Hebron.  All types of motorcycles, a convertible and a muscle car joined in on the fun.

There were 103 registered entries.

First place winner was Kendra Morris, Superior, second place winner, Amy Behrens, Geneva, and third place winner Michelle Kline, Nelson.

Award medals were also given to Bill Paxton, Superior, for riding the oldest motorcycle a 1998 model, and Jessy Sporing who came 150 miles from Elkhorn for traveling the longest distance to participate.

Those participants who were veterans were recognized for their service. Tim Hecke, 35. of Geneva was awarded a medal for being the youngest veteran participant. Larry Simpkins, 82, of Superior was awarded the medal for being the oldest veteran participant. Larry has received this award for several years.

The 50/50 winner was Michael Bower from Kearney. He donated it back to the Edgar Legion Riders to add to their contribution given to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. This scholarship gives college funding to children of post 911 Veterans who died on active duty, or those who have a combined disability of 50 percent or greater. The Edgar Legion Riders are proud to contribute to this each year.

The Edgar Legion Poker Run is held the first Sunday of June each year with door prizes and a meal provided afterwards.
