Truck crashes into Dollar General Store

Dollar General drive-thru

The Superior Dollar General store had a new ventilation system installed Saturday when a pickup truckcrashed through the east side of the building.

The driver said her foot slipped off the brake pedal as she was parking and landed on the accelerator pedal. The surge of power sent the vehicle through the side of the building leaving a perfectly square opening.

The store was open for business at the time. No injuries were reported.

The Superior Volunteer Fire department as well as police and ambulance departments were dispatched to the scene.

The driver managed to avoid missing the vertical support beams but was not as fortunate when it came to the horizontal beams. The roof of her truck was compressed. First responders deflated the vehicle tires and were able to remove her from the vehicle.

The store manager was on site until 11 p.m. awaiting the arrival of a repair person to cover the unanticipated aperture in the building.

The store remained closed as of Tuesday morning.
