Donn Crilly

Donn Howard Crilly M.D. was born to Howard and Lenore (nee Hagel) Crilly at Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 7, 1927. The Crillys moved to Superior when Donn was nine years old as his father became the editor and publisher of The Superior Express. Donn graduated from Superior High School in 1945 and from there went into the military. After his discharge, Donn pursued a formal education starting at Doane College, the University of Nebraska Medical School, and subsequently completed a residency at the Mayo Clinic in vascular surgery. Upon his leaving the Mayo Clinic, Donn was a member of a newly created vascular surgical team in Salzburg, Austria, a position which he held for six months. Upon his return to the U.S., Donn started a practice in the San Francisco Bay Area where he continued to work and reside until his retirement.

Donn and Sylvia Kopp were married in Salzburg, Austria, on July 5, 1974, and subsequently welcomed their son, Ryan, into the world on Nov. 22, 1976. Although Donn was very involved in his practice, much time was devoted to his family with whom he enjoyed not only time at home but many trips, especially overseas.

Upon the family's move back to Superior in 1993, Donn spent much time playing piano, delving into history which culminated in the publishing of a book, The History of the World, and continued to be a member of the Doane University Board of Trustees for a total of 40 years.

At the time of his death on June 16, 2023, he is survived by his wife, Sylvia; son, Ryan (Lesha) of Lincoln; three grandchildren; niece, Valerie Meyers; nephew, Phillip (Martha) Meyers, M.D .; great-niece, Maria; and a host of friends.

His parents, Howard and Lenore and sister, Jan Meyers, preceded him in death.
