Donn Howard Crilly M.D. was born to Howard and Lenore (nee Hagel) Crilly at Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 7, 1927. The Crillys moved to Superior when Donn was nine years old as his father became the editor and publisher of The Superior Express. Donn graduated from Superior High School in 1945 and from there went into the military. After his discharge, Donn pursued a formal education starting at Doane College, the University of Nebraska Medical School, and subsequently completed a residency at the Mayo Clinic in vascular surgery.
