Local woman contends for NCK Rodeo Queen

Chloe Weber, Jewell, is running for North Central Kansas Rodeo Queen. She is seated on "Frosty" at the Jewell County Saddle Club Open Horse Show held on Saturday in Mankato.

Chloe Weber of Jewell, local horsewoman, is in the running for the NCK (North Central Kansas) Rodeo Queen.  Weber is part of three area "horse" clubs, The Mitchell County Riders, the North Central Kansas Saddle Club, Concordia, and the Jewell County Saddle Club.

Saturday she was in Mankato taking part in the Jewell County Saddle Club's 11th Open Horse Show. The show was directed by Lesa Perotek, Esbon, and Jody Langer, Superior. The show judge was Linda Jensby, Russell, who grew up at Webber. Riders came to the show from Blue Hill, Lawrence and Superior, Nebraska, as well as Kansas communities of Concordia, Beloit, Jewell, Mankato, Esbon, Burr Oak, Russell and more.

Twenty-one-year-old Weber was entered in several of the 32 events, including the all ages "Egg and Spoon" race. That event was won by Aggie Moore, Concordia. Moore has played an important part in Weber's life, as her aunt and mentor.

Starting when Weber was four, Moore helped focus her niece's passion for horses into the successful rider and show woman she has become. The two are leaders of the NCK Saddle Club Drill team – "An awesome experience." Weber, said, "We've got a great thing going! Everyone is like family, both horses and riders enjoy what they are doing. Plus," she said, "we give great entertainment."

But why is Chloe running for the NCK Rodeo Queen?  "To support my saddle club that has supported me. I want to give back!"  She will find out if that dream will come true on July 7, at the 70th Annual NCK Rodeo. Until then, she hopes the next NCK Rodeo Queen will be from Jewell!
