Bailey Ceder preparing to compete at AQHA youth world

Bailey Ceder, daughter of Aaron and Jessica Ceder of Lawrence, qualified for the AQHA world show versatility ranch horse division in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The Versatility Ranch Horse competition promotes the athletic ability and versatility of the American Quarter Horse as demonstrated in six classes, ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch reining, ranch cow work, ranch cutting and ranch conformation.

Bailey spent the week competing on her six year old mare Peptos Seven Six, or Pepper as the family calls her, in five events. Pepper and Bailey have only been training together for a little over a year. The two competed in ranch riding, trail, reining, boxing and cutting. Bailey won a world championship in cutting, and placed in the top ten on all her other events. Since her mare, Pepper, is a AQHA heritage bred quarterhorse so she also able to compete in the heritage classes.

Bailey first started showing, with her horse, Poncho, when she was about ten years old traveling to open shows in Kansas. The past three years, she has been showing in quarterhorse shows, also in Kansas. She is passionate about her horses, and showing, and believes it is rewarding when she is able to see the progress that her and her horse have made together. She enjoys traveling to the shows, but finds it to be stressful when things are not coming together as they should.

Bailey attends Lawrence-Nelson High School, and will graduate this next school year. Bailey is an active member of the L-N golf team, president of the FFA, participates in quiz bowl and is a member of the national honor society. Bailey enjoys FFA and the leadership role that she currently holds and being able to promote farm, ranch, and agricultural way of life.

After high school, Bailey plans to attend Oklahoma State University and continue showing at the collegiate level. She plans to major in animal science and further her education at OSU by attending veterinary school. Bailey and Pepper are now preparing for AQHA youth world in Oklahoma City the end of July. She will compete in ranch trail, ranch riding and reined cowhorse.
