Roof of Sacred Heart church damaged in July 4th wind storm

The summer of 2023 may well be remembered by many because of the drought. Others may remember it for other weather phenomenon. But if you were in Lawrence the evening of the 4th of July, you might just remember the good ole Nebraska rain storm that came through in the early evening. A lot of tree damage was reported the days following the event, but the major damage as far as we know happened about 80 feet above the ground. Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the center of town had numerous tile blown off in the storm. Insurance adjustors have looked the damage over and the damage is covered, but no cost estimate has been received as of the writing. The community received approximately one-half and inch of rain with the storm as well as an area to the west of the community. Little rain received north or south of the community.
