County road plan calls for replacing 8 bridges, 6 culverts

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday.

The board approved claims.

The board approved a resolution designating the state printing shop to print public hearing post cards.

The board approved the installation of two furnaces to supply supplemental heating for the first floor of the courthouse. Energized Electric, Red Cloud, will install the equipment.

A public hearing was held for the road department one and six year road plan. No members of the public attended. The board approved the plan.

The one year plan calls for the replacement of eight bridges. The bridge west of Bostwick, on the Bostwick Road, is the largest bridge project. There is one bridge on Road D, between 3820 and 3840 to be replaced. A bridge across the Bostwick canal will be replaced. It is located .1 mile south of Road 2700. Two bridges will be replaced on Road E. One is between 3775 and 3800 while the other is located between 4100 and 4200. Two bridges on Road N are to be replaced. One is located between 1920 and 1940 with the other being sited between 3600 and 3620. The final bridge project is located on Road K between 3240 and 3260. Some of the projects may be bid this fiscal year but not constructed until the following fiscal year.

There are six culvert projects listed. One mile of Road S between 4730 and 4230 will be graded as well as a three mile stretch of Road D.

The board adjourned and reconvened as the county board of equalization. The board issued decisions on the valuation protests heard at the July 10 meeting. The board did not change the valuation on two protests filed by Floyd Rothfuss. The board voted to decrease the valuation on three protests filed by Jerry Karmazin. Mike Bower was granted a decrease in valuation on his valuation protest. A protest filed by Richard Schwieger resulted in no change as did the protest filed by Schwieger and Karen Happ. Craig Hale filed three protests with two resulting in a decrease and one with no change.

Raymond Dieatrick saw his valuation remain unchanged. Paul Thornton saw a decrease in his valuation. Jerry and Teri Oltmans were awarded a decrease in their valuation.

Diane Berkley had her valuations on two protests remain unchanged. Kellie Neill saw a decrease in her valuation.

The board has had no further interaction with Trane regarding the HVAC issues at the courthouse.

The board will meet at 8:30 a.m., Monday, August 7, at the courthouse.
