Andrew Wassom

Andrew Bryan James Wassom, son of Donald W. Wassom and Karol L. (Messman) Wassom, was born Feb. 2, 1980, at Belleville, Kansas. He died July 18, 2023, at Bryan East Medical Center, Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 43.

Andrew was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran in Chester, attended Chester-Hubbell-Byron Schools, and graduated in 1998. He attended Cloud County Community College, Concordia, Kansas, and graduated with an associates of arts degree.

He was united in marriage to Danielle Smith on May 18, 2019, in Superior, in the backyard gazebo of the Screenwriting Colony House where they met in 2012, under the tutelage of their writing mentor Lew Hunter, who is survived by his wife, Pamela.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle Smith of Chester; parents, Donald and Karol Wassom of Chester; one brother, Matthew (Mary Kessinger-Wassom) of Frankfort, Kansas; one sister, Kari (Kalen) Betten of Deshler, Nebraska; nephews, Simeon Wassom, Titus Wassom, Asher Wassom, Koen Betten, Sam Smith, Comet Smith, Leo Smith, nieces, Kora Betten, Daisy Smith, Robyn Smith, other relatives and many friends.

Andy asked that he be remembered, not how he went out, but how he lived, and that we keep him alive in our memories. There are many ways to describe this force of nature: hilarious, intelligent, great at impressions, strong-willed, passionate, knowledgeable about so many areas, determined, creative, kind-hearted, marched to the beat of his own drum, fearless, all gas no brakes, big hearted, one of a kind, loyal, and awesome. He touched the lives of everyone around him.

His funeral was held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at Chester Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Brian Faust. Interment was made in Chester Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Andrew Wassom memorial fund.
