J. C. Farm Bureau establishes "Beef for Knowledge"

The Jewell County Farm Bureau board started the program "Beef for Knowledge" as they wanted the students to have more personal knowledge and awareness of where the donated beef or pork they are provided comes from. They wanted to provide the school district with a higher quality meat and felt if it was donated there would be no limitations on serving quality meat in their menu.

Kensington Locker has been a great partnership as they are willing to move the animal up to the top of the list for the schools. For this particular event, the board was able to get a whole beef donated by a local rancher and then used the cost of the animal to get matching funds. The grant money was then used to pay for the processing of the animal so the school would have the hamburger to use to feed school children and staff and not have to carry any of the cost for farm raised meat. It's a great opportunity to give back and feed better quality beef to the students. The board would like to see more community members get involved, either by animal donation or financially.
