Christmas came early to Lovewell State Park

Christmas came early at Lovewell State Park on Saturday, when the staff hosted its 21st Annual Campground Christmas. This year’s event had 13 decorated campsites, cabins and trailers registered for the contest. Entries were decked out with lights, holiday blowups, Christmas trees and a variety of traditional and non-traditional decorations. Winning first place by judges’ vote was Susan Traeger and friends of Fairbury, in the North Willow Campground, with their Redneck Christmas display. Second place was awarded to Mike and Emma Bruns of Fairmont, in the Cottonwood Campground, with their campsite adorned with holiday blowups and many lights, some spelling out ‘Heart Lovewell’, in the grass. Nicole Gieber of Concordia, was the third place winner, with a light and nativity display in the Twin Coves private trailer area of the park. Judges circled the state park on Saturday evening to choose the winners. Many other vehicles visited the campgrounds that evening to view the creative decorations. Several campsites played holiday music and shared holiday treats with visitors. The winners received their prizes at the Beach Shelter on Sunday morning.
