Judge sends 2 to state penitentiary

Morgan Fahrquar presided over two Nuckolls County district court sentencings at the county courthouse in Nelson last Wednesday.

Myron Gray, was convicted on two felony counts. Count one was criminal attempt of distribution of a controlled substance, a Class 3 felony. He was convicted on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony. The judge cited Gray’s lengthy criminal history in deeming him an unsuitable candidate for probation. Gray was sentenced to 24 months in state prison on the first count as well as 18 months of post release supervision. He was sentenced to 24 months in prison and 12 months of post release supervision on the second count. He is eligible for good behavior credit. He was credited with 70 days served in county jail. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Thomas Savage was the second defendant to be sentenced.

Savage was found guilty on two charges. The first count involved an 11-year old female victim at the time of the offense. The second crime Savage was convicted of first degree sexual assault a Class 2 felony. He was convicted on a count of child abuse.

Savage was sentenced to 38 to 40 years in state custody on the first charge. He will also be on the lifetime sex offender registry. He was sentenced to 28 to 36 months of imprisonment on the second charge. The terms are to be served consecutively.

Farhrquar noted that Savage had ruined the lives of two innocent victims. He also noted that Savage, 23, had a history of criminal behavior.

Both defendants were residents of Superior.
