SHS football falls to Kenesaw

It was a tale of two halves not making a whole as the Superior Wildcats football team fell victim to the Kenesaw Blue Devils, 54-28, at Superior's Brodstone Memorial Field at Friday's Homecoming game.

Kenesaw opened up an 8-0 lead at the end of the first quarter as the Superior defense stayed on target. Kenesaw opened up a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Superior closed the gap to 14-6 on a 57 yard touchdown pass from Lincoln Sander to Kyler Boyles. Kenesaw punched through the Superior defense for a 69 yard touchdown run to take a 22-6 lead. Superior roared back and closed the gap to 22-14 with a 29 yard pass from Sander to Colten Butler for a touchdown.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they were unable to sustain a cohesive defensive effort as they allowed two unanswered Blue Devil touchdowns to trail 38-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Kenesaw struck first in the fourth quarter to take a 46-22 lead. Sander broke free to electrify the crowd with a 66 yard touchdown ramble to close to 46-33. Kenesaw returned for another touchdown to take a 54-22 lead. Sander slipped the Kenesaw defense again for a 46 yard romp for Superior's final score. Superior saw their record go to -04 with the 54-28 loss.


Sander completed five of his 17 pass attempts for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Butler reeled in three passes for 72 yards and a touchdown. Boyles grabbed one reception for 57 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Mathis nabbed one pass for 14 yards.

Sander Boyles carried the ball 17 times for 18 yards. Sander took the ball 10 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Butler had four carries for a negative five yards.


Boyles was all over the field on the defensive side of the ball with seven solo tackles and eight assisted tackles. Caiden Smullins made four solo tackles and nine assisted tackles. Christian Osweiller produced four solo tackles and eight assisted tackles. Sander grabbed three solo tackles and had two assisted tackles. Dayne Clark manufactured three solo and eight assisted tackles. Butler and Mathis came through with three solo tackles and two assisted tackles each. Brayden Stevens nabbed two solo tackles and four assisted tackles. Ja'Cobey Beck added a solo tackle and two assisted tackles. Cooper Ehlers and Cooper Sheely claimed a solo and an assisted tackle each. David Hodges recorded a solo tackle. Miller accounted for three assisted tackles. Sander and Lenden Worm had an assisted tackle each.


Boyles averaged 43 yard for each of his three punts.

The Wildcats have their bye week Friday and will return to he field against Sandy Creek, at Sandy creek, Friday, Sept. 22.
