Jewell County Health Department will kick off the annual flu shot clinics starting at Jewell Corn Show on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by Tuesday, Oct. 17 in Esbon at Guaranty State Bank 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Burr Oak at Guaranty State Bank 1 to 3 p.m., and Mankato on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Community Center 10-12 Noon. No appointment needed. Please bring your insurance card and wear short-sleeved shirts. Walk-in Wednesdays are still an option if unable to attend the clinics.

Oct. 23 to 24 a flu clinic will be held at Rock Hills for students and facility.

The health department thanks the local communities for hosting the clinic so they can bring services closer to residents. Businesses or communities wanting to host a clinic can call the Jewell County Health Department.

If you can’t make it to the clinics, you can schedule an appointment at the office by calling 785-378-4060.

RSV vaccine may be available at some time but currently the department doesn’t have many details.

The Jewell County Health Department is waiting for a release of the new COVID vaccine.  Details are limited currently. This vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months or older. Special interest is encouraged for the elderly or persons with underlying health conditions. More information about COVID vaccine, symptoms, exposure treatment, free at home tests kits can be found at: http://www.covid. gov. You can be added to the wait list by calling 785-378-4060, or if you need further assistance.

The State of Kansas has encouraged rural health departments to assist persons with limited finances in need of lab draws that includes a complete blood profile among others. If you need blood tests, call the office to see if you qualify. People are encouraged to utilize the spring Health fair sponsored by Jewell County Hospital. 

The Jewell County Health Department currently working on training staff and becoming certified to test for sexually transmitted diseases. These services would include testing and treatment options in a confidential setting. Free condoms are available.

Free prenatal vitamins available for women of childbearing age at the department. No prescription is needed. The Jewell County Health Department is also working in cooperation with the Jewell County Sheriff’s Office to install Pill Take Back Boxes, these will be located at the sheriff’s department and the health department to dispose of unused medications.

Childhood immunizations continue to be available by appointment. Car seat checks will be held at the Corn Show Oct. 14, limited number of seats available, must qualify for free car seat, more information will be posted on the Jewell County Health page and the WIC Facebook page.
