Fundraiser Cornhole Tournament returns for SVRS

Fundraiser Cornhole Tournament returns for SVRS

Superior Volunteer Rescue Squad is hosting a Fundraiser Cornhole Tournament Friday, Oct. 20, at Superior Bowl. After the success of the cornhole tournament last year, the squad is excited to make it an annual event. They will start signing up teams at 6 p.m. and the games will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a free will donation meal available to the public starting at 6 p.m. with burgers and hot dogs grilled and donated by Brodstone Healthcare. Superior Bowl will also be offering a beer garden outside with buckets of beer. People will need their ID to get in.

If you would like to participate, teams of two can sign up the night of the tournament or contact TJ Sibert or Carrie Lemke. An entry fee of $40 for each team will be placed in the pot and a 50 percent payout will be made to the first and second place teams.

If you’d like to contribute but would rather not play, you can sponsor a team with a $40 donation, or with a $100 donation, your name will be placed on a board. Of course, any donation is welcome and greatly appreciated.

The Superior Volunteer Rescue Squad is currently utilizing a 2003 Ford ambulance as its “Mod 1,” or main unit, for emergency calls. “Mod 2,” or backup unit, is a 1991 Ford ambulance. At more than 30 years old, it is time for SVRS to retire the Mod 2 unit and upgrade the Mod 1 unit.

In 2022, the rescue squad was awarded a grant for $150,000 towards the purchase of a new ambulance unit. The squad looked at several options and decided on the unit to provide the best quality prehospital care for the community. The Superior City Council approved the purchase of the unit, on the condition the squad help cover the cost difference between the grant and final purchase price. The contributions to the cornhole tournament and any additional donations will be used to do that.
