Legion Family plans upcoming events

Nelson American Legion, Sons of Legion and Legion Auxiliary members all had many ideas and event plannings to discuss during their meetings held last Thursday. Joint considerations included financial information; Veterans’ Day Ceremony, Veterans’ Day evening meal and program and community events including the Chili Cook-Off on Oct.15, and Trunk or Treat planning.

Announcements were that the District 10 executive committee will meet in Nelson on Saturday, Nov. 4, and all invited to attend. The Veterans’ Cemetery in Grand Island will be dedicated as a National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10. Lunch is available at the VA Club following the dedication ceremony.

The auxiliary completed plans for the upcoming Chili Cook-Off and for the Trunk or Treat event which will be held on the south side of the building from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The library is making plans to show a movie in conjunction with this event, outdoors in the evening if weather permits or inside if Mother Nature insists. Watch for further news and timing on this; in news articles, flyers and on Facebook.

The Veterans’ Day supper menu was set with some delicious menu item changes. The group also voted in favor of donating $ 100 to Gifts for Yanks to help make sure enough funds are available to make sure each veteran in a Veteran’s facility receives at least $20. at Christmastime.

November meetings will be held in conjunction with the Veterans Day supper.
