City council
There was good news for motorists when the Superior City Council met last Wednesday.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad plans to repair the Hartley Street and Central Avenue crossings in early November. The work will require the closing of the crossings for about two weeks and all traffic will be detoured over the Bloom Street crossing. But the news is not as good as it sounds. Only the southern most two tracks will receive repairs. The other tracks are the responsibility of shippers with facilities in the area. The Agrex Hartley Street tracks are scheduled for repair in 2024. It is not known when Aurora Cooperative plans to repair their portion of the Central Avenue crossing.
The council approved the closing of Lincoln Park to through traffic so the Candy Cane Lane committee can begin setting up the Christmas lighting displays.
The resignation of Beth Wilkes, the utility department’s billing clerk, was accepted. It was reported she has taken employment with Brodstone Healthcare.
Rachel Browning and friends appeared before the council to request a property at 524 Colorado be removed from the abatement list. Browning said since purchasing the property, she had been cleaning the lot and was prepared to have the bulging basement wall repaired and the roof shingled. While the council did not totally remove the property from the abatement list, the council did agreed to allow time for the repairs to be made. If the repairs are made in a timely matter, the property will be removed from the list.
The property at 171 S. Central was declared a nusiance. The owner will now face a timeline to either repair or replace the property.
The mayor’s appointment of Andrew Carter to the Economic Development Review Committee was approved.
