David Scripter

David Allen Scripter, age 67, died at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023. He was born to Richard and Dorothy (Bemis) Scripter on June 17, 1956, in Salina, Kansas. David grew up in the Longford area for half of his childhood. In the 6th grade he and his family moved to Superior, Nebraska, where he graduated high school. David later attended Kearney State College and Central Community College in Hastings, earning his welding certification. He married Janis "Jill" Tyree on Sept. 24, 1976. She survives of the home.

In 1990, David and Jill moved to Clay Center, Kansas. David worked for the family business, Longford Mill Products, and then later farmed with his family. He began working for Hutchinson-Maywrath until 2016, and continued there until he retired. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and lawn care. Most of all he enjoyed attending his children' and grandchildren's activities. David was a current member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Elks and Old Car Nuts. He was a volunteer firefighter in Superior.

He was preceded in death by his father, and brothers, Donald and Steven Scripter.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Scripter of Clay Center, Kansas; sons, Daniel and wife, Jasmine Scripter, of White City, Kansas, and Thomas and wife, Sydnie Scripter, of Manhattan, Kansas; his mother, Dorothy Scripter of Clay Center, Kansas; grandchildren, MacKenzie Merreighn, Billie Merreighn III, Everly Scripter and Owen Scripter; sister: Susan and husband, Gary Miller, of Davenport, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Diane Scripter of Atlanta, Nebraska, and Ronda Scripter of Omaha; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral is at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) Nov. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center.
