Members of the Ruskin Volunteer Fire Department were called to battle a house fire about 8 Saturday morning.

The little blue house north of the C&M Supply office at the northwest edge of the east central Nuckolls County community was on fire.

The Express has not been able to confirm all the details associated with the fire but from what we have gathered no one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

J. D. Marquart was the renter of the home that was the former home of Olga Sorensen. He commented after the fire, "Definitely horrible watching everything you have burn. Definitely would not wish this on anyone. Thankful for everyone who responded to this horrible mess."

Word of the fire caused many past and current Ruskin residents to recall memories associated with the house.

Pat Boss said, "I remember going there to visit Olga with the Sorensen girls."

While the exterior of Ruskinʼs "Little Blue House" may not look so bad the interior shows the damaged caused by the fire.

Tami Lipker said, "Rob remembers going over to her home with Lynn and enjoying a glass of Tang."

Jeanelle Brinegar said, "Spent many days there visiting with Olga and Fritz. They were like grandparents to me."

Larry Sorensen, noted, "Their house was always open to anyone. Especially anyone who wanted a cup of coffee and one of Grandma's homebaked foods. Good memories in that house!"

Kristen Ronenkamp said, "Mom would go visit Olga (and Mary and Nellie who lived nearby) and take us along. I remember the little crochet purses she made for the little girls in our church. We all had a different color. What a sweet lady."

Linda Hutchinson voiced a comment that many Ruskin residents can identify with, "Olga and Fritz were wonderful people. Remember them well."

While the house still stands, damage is so extensive it will most likely be removed.
