Judge Michael Burns, who presides over the Nuckolls County Court, ordered a Superior juvenile offender committed to the Youth Rehabilitation Training Center in Kearney, Monday. The offender will be subject to intense supervised probation until he reaches the age of majority (19). The judge noted his probation was revoked because he attempted to flee when assigned to a group home in North Platte. He subsequently attempted to flee a detention facility at Madison. He is also facing another 40 charges in a case yet to be tried.

The judge noted that the youthful offender did not have the ability to pay restitution which had been ordered in previous cases. Victims are free to seek damages in civil suits should they wish to recoup their losses.

The offender will remain in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services until he reaches the age of 19 or sooner should he be deemed eligible for reentry into the community.

The Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant on a Nelson residence Monday, Nov. 6, in connection with a sexual assault. The county department was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol. The items named in the search warrant were discovered at the residence. The alleged offender returned to the house and was arrested.

He was being held on a $250,000 bond or 10 percent cash bond at the Adams County jail. He was scheduled to appear in county court Monday but posted bond on Sunday. He now is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Dec, 4, for his arraignment.
